Over visiting friends and they took us here. Went on a tour of the prison and history of the building. There were some freaky life like mannequins that scared the hell out of me.There is also a shop that sells sovereign and had some interesting stuff.
Interesting, historical and iconic building within the old prison. Lots on the famous riot and sas intervention. And if you're lucky, you'll meet Jackie, a prison warden who was stabbed multiple times and still works there. The other staff are lovely too.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Very interesting museum and fascinating insight into life when it first opened. Interesting displays and very real 'smells' make it authentic. If you go in winter take a warm coat, hat and gloves!
Absolutely fascinating - recently visited with family and we were blown away by the scale and quality of the attraction. The audio tour is fully immersive and takes you through the amazing history of the prison. The building remains very much as it was and this all adds to the authenticity of the experience. The staff are all incredibly passionate and friendly and happy to answer any questions. Its just a short and scenic drive from Aberdeen and well worth the trip. We are so glad we made the trip and would highly recommend Peterhead Prison Museum for a day out with the family.
Great place to visit and reinforced my desire not to end up in prison!Audio guided tour around some of the old prison buildings gives you a great idea of what the prison was like in its operational days. Takes around 90 minutes although you can take longer to look around and chat if you want. Thoroughly recommended.
